Sea Trout

Sea trout can be found all around Tasmania in the early months of the season. Starting in August and ending at the beginning of November, these fish are tough to catch but very rewarding. Specimens of over twenty five pounds are caught every year but everything hinges on the runs of white bait on which the trout feed.

North eastern, western and southern estuaries contain the best fishing with September being the prime month. Atlantic Salmon are also regularly caught and provide an excellent by-catch.

This style of fishing is not suited to beginners as fish move quickly and often tight to cover. Quick casting and minimal false casts is required. This is some of my favorite fishing in the entire season.
