Macquarie River

Unfortunately, the Macquarie is not what it used to be. The lack of rain has affected the fishing in an adverse way and the mayfly hatches are not a shadow of their former selves. Although October is seen as the best time to fish the river, recent years have not produced the sort of fishing for which it is noted. The exception to this is the lower Macquarie below Brumbies Creek.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom and if conditions are right, it’s the number one choice of most river anglers. Will conditions ever be right again?
