Map & Directions

The directions to get to Rainbow Lodge from Launceston Airport are as follows - I am assuming that there will be a map of some description in your hire car.

As you leave the pick up point for your hire car and leave the airport, turn right and travel towards Launceston. After a couple of kilometres you will come to a major roundabout, where you turn left and head towards Perth. Perth is only about 3 or 4 km's from the roundabout.

As you go over the hill and into Perth (this is only a small town) you will see a turn off to the right called Youl Main Road. Take this turn and follow this road until it meets Highway B52.

Turn right and head towards Longford. Longford is around 5 km's along this road - there is an intersection that is very well marked. Turn left here and drive through Longford and straight on through to Cressy and then follow this same road until you come to a right hand turnoff intersection directing you to Poatina and the Central Highland Lakes. This road is highway B51. From the turn off to Longford to this intersection is around 21 or 22 km's or thereabouts.

Turn right and follow this road all the way up to the central plateau - this will take around 40 minutes to get to the next turnoff. This road is sealed all the way through. As you go up the side of the mountain there are a number of tight switchbacks and hair pin turns, and also a lot of logging trucks. All three should be treated with caution!

You will pass the Poatina Village as well, which is on your left. From the Poatina Village to the next turn off is around 41 km's. Once you are on top of the plateau it is plain sailing (you should see glimpses of Great Lake on your right and Arthurs Lake on your left.

When you reach the end of B51, you will come to a T intersection. Turn right here. You are only about 10 minutes or 12 km's from our house. you will head up a slight rise and onto Barren Tier. Once over the top of this you will head down the other side with Shannon Lagoon on your left. Once over the bridge at the end of the Shannon you are in the bustling metropolis of Miena.

Keep going straight ahead and round a sharpish left hand turn where you will see Great Lake on your right. As you keep travelling you will see on your left the Central Highlands Lodge, our turn off is the next right as you commence heading up hill again.

The road you will turn into is called Thiessen Crescent. The first left is called Berry Drive, about 30 metres past this is a steep driveway on your left between a dark brown house and a cedar clad house. This is the driveway for Rainbow Lodge. Rainbow Lodge is the grey house at the end of the drive.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to call. Only Telstra Next G mobile phones work up here, so if you need to call maybe do so before you hit the Poatina hill. If you get stuck at all just call into the Central Highlands lodge and they will be able to call us from there. Have a safe trip.

Airport transfers

We can arrange to pick you up from the airport, but this needs to be prior arrangement, as it can obviously eat into a day’s guiding.
